The drain fly thrives especially on surfaces covered with grease and organic matter in drain pipes and floor drains. The constant presence of insects in the kitchen or bathroom is perceived as unpleasant and signals poor hygiene.
SmartPipe's solution gets to the root of the problem
SmartPipe's control solution is chemical-free and safe. The microbial solution produced in Finland breaks down the organic layer on the surface of the sewer pipe, which acts as a food source for fly larvae, so that the fly cannot find a place to reproduce in the pipe. The result is permanent, because the solution removes the cause of the problem deep in the pipeline — not just repels adult flies.
Starting a maintenance service is easy
Starting the maintenance service is easy. Once we have received your contact, we will contact you about the mapping of the property. Based on the insect observations, we prepare a customized proposal for exterminating drain flies, after which our technical expert installs the Dispensing Devices in the identified problem areas.
Our expert makes regular maintenance visits to the property, changes the maintenance agent canisters and monitors the results of the treatment. We report the results and suggestions for follow-up measures to the customer.

How much does the drain fly control service cost?
The monthly price of the maintenance service is affected by the size of the object, the number of necessary dosing devices and the amount of dosing. In a small property, one or two dosing devices may be enough to eliminate the plumbing problems, in which case we are talking about a few hundred euros per month. In a large shopping center or, for example, on a cruise ship, there can be dozens of dispensing devices.
The price includes monitoring by SmartPipe's technical expert, customer reporting, and replacement of maintenance canisters every few weeks.
The final price of the service is calculated based on the survey.

Helsinki office building gets rid of long-standing insect problem
When drain flies were discovered in a large office and commercial building in central Helsinki in the fall of 2024 and traditional pest control methods were ineffective, SmartPipe was given the opportunity to initiate biological pipe maintenance using a sewer treatment agent tailored to control flies. The insects quickly spread to the empty floors of the building and were also observed in the building's rental and commercial spaces.
The drain flies decreased significantly and the control was also extended to the other side of the block, where more flies were later observed.
The odors that plagued the property were removed with the decomposition of the fatty waste accumulated in the pipeline.
The maintenance service is continued with a smaller dosage, ensuring that the insects do not return to the property.
