After the aggressive increase of drain flies in properties in recent years, we have customized a version of the pipeline maintenance agent to combat these flies and have already freed dozens of properties from the drain flies.
The drain fly is a harmless but annoying guest
The drain fly thrives especially on surfaces covered with grease and organic matter in drain pipes and floor drains. The constant presence of insects in the kitchen or bathroom is perceived as unpleasant and signals poor hygiene.
SmartPipe's control solution is chemical-free and safe. The microbial solution produced in Finland breaks down the organic layer on the surface of the sewer pipe, which acts as a food source for fly larvae, so that the fly cannot find a place to reproduce in the pipe. The result is permanent, because the solution removes the cause of the problem deep in the pipeline — not just repels adult flies.
Service implementation
Getting started with drain fly control is quick. Once we have received your contact, we will contact you to survey the property. Based on the observations and survey, we will prepare a customized proposal for the property, after which our technical expert will install plumbing maintenance dosing devices in the identified problem areas.
Our expert makes a maintenance visit to the property every few weeks, changes the maintenance agent canisters and monitors the development of the results. We report the results and suggestions for follow-up measures to the customer.

What makes SmartPipe different from other operators?
SmartPipe's drain fly control is based on a biological pipe maintenance agent that destroys the suitable growing environment for insects.
A solution containing microbes is regularly dosed into the pipe, which breaks down and uses as nutrition the organic waste (including fats and oils) accumulated in the pipe. The solution cleans the pipe through a biological process and, when used regularly, forms a protective biofilm on the pipe surface, preventing the attachment of waste and insects. Similar technology has been used in water treatment plants in Finland for almost a hundred years.
When the ideal growing environment for insects is destroyed, the insects cannot feed and nest in the pipe.

A microbial-based concentrated solution for the control of drain flies and other insects living in pipes. The solution contains 100% Bacillus bacteria in spore form.
The microbes contained in the solution destroy the ideal living conditions for pipeline insects by breaking down the waste and the surface tension of the water.
What is the price of a pipeline maintenance service?
The monthly price of the service is affected by the size of the object, the number of necessary dispensing devices and the frequency of dispensing. In a small property, one or two dispensing devices may be enough to eliminate plumbing problems. There can be dozens of dispensing devices in a large shopping center or, for example, on a cruise ship.
The price includes monitoring by SmartPipe's technical expert, customer reporting, and replacement of maintenance canisters every few weeks.
The pipeline maintenance service does not burden the maintenance personnel of the property, the maintenance company or the property manager.

Case: Office building in Helsinki
When drain flies were discovered in a large office and commercial building in central Helsinki in the fall of 2024 and traditional pest control methods were ineffective, SmartPipe was given the opportunity to initiate biological pipe maintenance using a sewer treatment agent tailored to control flies. The insects quickly spread to the empty floors of the building and were also observed in the building's rental and commercial spaces.
During the first few months, the number of flies decreased significantly and the control was also extended to the other side of the block, where more insects were observed.
In addition, the odor problems that had affected the property disappeared as the grease waste accumulated in the piping system was broken down.
The treatment program is continued at a lower dosage to ensure lasting results, ensuring that the insects do not return to the property.
